Junior Culinary Team Canada Champions

For three days in the fall of 2013, Toronto's George Brown College was abuzz with excitement as teams of talented young chefs from three Canadian culinary colleges vied to become the Canadian Culinary Federation's (CCFCC) 2014-2016 Junior Culinary Team.


Each participating team is required to design and prepare a three-course menu, including a seafood appetizer, a hot main course and a dessert of their choice.

The judges then evaluate the plates based on presentation, taste and temperature. They also judge each team on the quality of their kitchen work, specifically their cooking techniques, proper product utilization and safety.

In 2016, Ontario’s Niagara College regional team received the honour of becoming the Junior Culinary Team Canada. The young team went on to proudly represent the CCFCC at the IKA Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany.


The IKA Culinary Olympics have been the biggest and most prestigious culinary event for many years. Inspired by the Games, these cooking Olympics are held every four years in Germany.

The young Canadians demonstrated their prowess in the Cold Display Table Competition, earning a gold medal for their 12-person buffet including canapés, cold plate, hot main course and dessert.


The Junior Chefs also took part in another competition at this high-profile event—the Restaurant of Nations Hot Competition—for which they designed and prepared a three-course menu for 60 people.
