Breakfast All Day: Changing the Game
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it’s no longer just a sit-down meal eaten before leaving the house. Traditional eating times and at-home meals are less popular, while the demand for ready-made, grab-and-go food options rises. To appeal to consumers with fast-paced lifestyles, think of breakfast less as a meal and more as a state of mind.
Quick service restaurants (QSRs) have achieved success by offering breakfast all day, serving extremely popular items like breakfast sandwiches around the clock.
There are many ways to compete in this growing market segment. Start by thinking beyond the traditional breakfast menu. From pizzas to tacos and burgers, plenty of dishes already on the lunch or dinner menu can be remade in the style of breakfast. Or, consider adding new items like grab-and-go oats, yogurt parfaits or smoothies, which also double as great snack items.
Breakfast Egg Tacos
Armstrong Habanero Cheddar shredded cheese blend offers a spicy kick no matter the time of day. This cheese is right at home on a taco, which Technomic reports is among the global flavours that consumers are trying1. And, it complements a wide range of filling ingredients including eggs, avocado, chorizo, tomatoes, onions and more, giving restaurants a range of options for their customers.
Grab-and-go Egg Burritos
Restaurants should also consider offering some grab-and-go menu items for consumers who want a quick, portable option morning, noon or night. Burritos are the perfect solution. Woolwich Dairy Goat cheese crumbles bring premium flavour to any egg-based dish, especially when wrapped with tomatoes, onions and even a dash of hot sauce. And, it is available in a 454 g resealable, stackable container for easy access and storage in the kitchen.
Cottage Cheese Express Smoothie
With low fat content and plenty of protein, cottage cheese from Saputo is a nutritious breakfast option that can be used in a variety of menu items. Entice busy consumers with express, grab-and-go smoothies made from cottage cheese, wheat germ, spinach, alfalfa, parsley and coriander.
Ricotta Grab-and-go Parfait
While traditionally served at breakfast, parfaits are a great grab-and-go option any time of day. Traditional yogurt can be replaced with Saputo Ricotta as the base. Layer in honey, warm spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, fruit, granola and more.
Breakfast Pizza
Restaurant traffic at breakfast is on the rise2 and pizzerias can take advantage by adding a breakfast pizza to the menu. For example, Saputo Bocconcini cheese can be combined with eggs and prosciutto, other charcuterie or more traditional pizza ingredients allowing pizzerias to expand their menu to all times of day.
Stacked Oat Cups
Packed with a variety of ingredients in a portable, transparent container, stacked oat cups are a good option for operators at all dayparts3. Made with milk, oats and chia seeds or a wide range of other ingredients, they are an easy breakfast, mid-morning or afternoon snack for busy people on the move. They can also be made with different types of milk such as our lactose-free products providing an option for consumers with lactose intolerance, or our JOYYA ultrafiltered milk which has 16 grams of protein per one cup serving – 75% more than regular milk.
